For consumersExpert report on the bottle

Not sure your perfume is genuine?

Today you can request an expert report, priced by quotation: write to us, send the bottle and get a report signed by the expert. Coming soon: Forensis Lab Verify™, a first level of analysis with our technology and the assessment of our experts. It is not an expert report.

How it works for you

The expert report, in three steps

  1. 01

    Write to us

Tell us which perfume it is, where and when you bought it, what you paid and what doesn't seem right about it.

  2. 02

    Send the bottle

We reply with the price, the timing and how to send it: nothing begins without your agreement.

  3. 03

    Receive the signed report

It is signed by the court-registered expert, after the laboratory check; the chemical analysis is added only if needed.

Forensis Lab Verify™ is coming soon: it will be the first step, before these three.

First, look

Where a fake gives itself away

No single sign is proof on its own: these are the points the expert checks first.

  1. 01

    The glass

Finishing, clarity and thickness of the bottle.

  2. 02

    Collar and cap

Tolerances, alignment, how well the closure seals.

  3. 03

    The label

Typefaces, colours and alignment of the text.

  4. 04

    The batch code

Present, legible, identical on bottle and box.

  5. 05

    The cellophane

Seals, folds and thickness of the film.

Note · health

Counterfeit products can contain unwanted substances, for example undeclared allergens or solvents above the permitted limits, such as methanol.

If you notice irritation or any other reaction, stop using the product and see a doctor: that comes first, and no analysis can take its place. If you then want to know what the product contains, say so in your request for an expert report: in the quotation we tell you whether a chemical analysis is really needed. If the analysis reveals a risk, we'll tell you how to report it to the authorities and, where the law provides for it, we report it ourselves.

Levels of analysis

From Verify™ to chemical analysis

The laboratory check takes place in the expert's own laboratory; the chemical analysis is done by an external laboratory, named in the report along with its qualifications.

Forensis Lab Verify™

From your photos, to decide whether to go on to the laboratory

A pre-analysis assisted by artificial intelligence: our experts will assess the result and take responsibility for it. It is not available today.

It gives a preliminary result: it is not an expert report. Photos alone cannot prove that a perfume is genuine, and examining it requires the laboratory check.

How it worksHow it works: Forensis Lab Verify™

Pre-analysis of your photos, without sending the bottle

When it is available, you'll upload eight photos of your perfume, one for each point below, with the details of your purchase. The comparison with the genuine product will be assisted by artificial-intelligence tools; a person will assess the result, take responsibility for it and write to tell you the outcome.

What is checked

  • 01The bottle and the box together, with a ruler beside them: shapes and proportions
  • 02The label: lettering, colours, alignment
  • 03The cap and the neck of the bottle: shape and position
  • 04The atomiser (the spray nozzle): shape and finish
  • 05The batch code: whether it has the right format for that perfume
  • 06The cellophane: seals and folds
  • 07The required symbols and the name of whoever is responsible for the product
  • 08The barcode: whether it matches that perfume

What you receive

The preliminary result of the pre-analysis, with the photos examined.

Laboratory check

Today you start here

The expert report: your bottle beside the genuine one

What you receiveThe report signed by the expert, which counts as an expert report: the measurements of your bottle beside those of the genuine one, and the differences found.

How it worksHow it works: laboratory check

With the product in hand, beside a genuine example

You send us the bottle. We set it beside a genuine bottle of the same perfume, measure it, examine it and note every difference.

What is checked

  • 01A direct comparison with a genuine example
  • 02Measurements of the bottle and cap, taken with digital callipers
  • 03The weight, both overall and of the perfume alone, and the actual amount (volume)
  • 04The paper and card of the box
  • 05Engraving, printing and embossing
  • 06The bottle under low-angle light and ultraviolet light

What you receive

The report signed by the expert, which counts as an expert report: the measurements of your bottle beside those of the genuine one, and the differences found.

Chemical analysis

To find out what is in the fragrance

What you receiveA report comparing your perfume with the genuine one, with the expert's conclusions and how certain they are.

How it worksHow it works: chemical analysis

The chemical fingerprint of the fragrance

We separate the perfume into the substances it is made of and compare it with the genuine one. The analysis is carried out, under the expert's direction, by an external chemical laboratory: the report names it and states its qualifications. We need a small amount of your perfume.

What is checked

  • 01The main substances, separated and identified
  • 02Comparison with the genuine perfume
  • 03Substances that are missing, or that the genuine perfume does not contain
  • 04The proportions of the main substances
  • 05Specific substances, if the case calls for it

What you receive

A report comparing your perfume with the genuine one, with the expert's conclusions and how certain they are.

Indicative timings, from when we receive the bottle; for the chemical analysis they also depend on the external laboratory.

Questions

What people ask us

What happens after you write to us?

We reply by email with the price, the timing and how to send the bottle. Nothing begins without your agreement: you send the bottle only after you have accepted.

What does it cost?

The laboratory check and the chemical analysis are priced by quotation: we give you the price in our reply to your request, and we go ahead only if you accept it.

Do I have to send the perfume?

Yes: an expert report can only be made with the product in hand. We tell you how and where to send it in our reply to your request; before we start, we also tell you what happens to the bottle at the end and whether the chemical analysis uses up part of it. With Forensis Lab Verify™, when it arrives, the bottle will stay with you.

How long does it take?

Normally 3/5 days for the laboratory check and 7/10 days for the chemical analysis. These timings are indicative and run from when we receive the bottle; for the chemical analysis, they also depend on the external laboratory that carries it out.

What is Forensis Lab Verify™?

It is the first step on the route for consumers, and it is coming soon: a first level of analysis of your photos, with our technology (artificial-intelligence tools) and the assessment of our experts. It gives a preliminary result, for which our experts take responsibility; it is not an expert report, which can only be made with the product in hand. Today you can try the demo, in Italian, with simulated data.

What do you do with the photos and data from my case?

They go into your case file and are stored securely. We don't give them to anyone, except when the law or the judicial authorities require it, or when there is a health risk to be reported to the authorities. Photos and technical data may also be used in our reference archive of genuine and fake products, but only with nothing that could identify you.

Already have a report?

Every report carries a unique code. The public register of reports is still being set up: for now, to confirm a report, write to us quoting that code. Once the register is active, reports will also carry a QR code, and entering the code will show you whether the document is intact, who signed it and when.
